MOCHE Summer Speaker Series
We've been working with the Missouri Humanities Council and the Land Between the Rivers Historical Society to develop activities supporting the Commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Portage des Sioux which ended the War of 1812 between the U.S. and the Native American tribes in the Midwest.
One activity is a series of three speakers; one each in June, July and August. Attached is a flyer about the speakers. Please feel free to download, print or forward to anyone who might be interested in attending.
In conjunction with the Commemoration, we've also developed two lesson packets, one for elementary and one secondary, which deal with Native Americans in the Midwest, the War of 1812, and the 1815 treaties. They will be available for free download on the MOCHE website (www.mohistoryeducation.org) and the Commemoration website (peace-friendship.com). Look for them to be on the websites before the first speaker on 20 June. We'll have a free workshop for educators after the August 1 speaker.
I hope many of you will be able to join us for the speakers and will be able to use the lesson packets in your class.
Yours,
Gary McKiddy, President
Missouri Council for History Education
