What are the program goals?  For the past 5 years, American educators have partnered with theRamallah Friends School in the West Bank of Palestine to lead summerEnglish and SAT Prep programs for Palestinian students grades 3-11.

1.     For our students, we provide rigorous, culturally responsive, and joyful English and SAT Prep programming that deepens their connections to their community, fosters their critical consciousness, and produces measurable skills growth.

2.     For our staff, we seek to learn from the diversity, strength, and resistance of the Palestinian community in order to be advocates and activists in solidarity upon returning to our home communities.

As aspiring allies in this work, we hope to build on the solidarity and connections between Palestinians and other communities because we share in the belief, as expressed in the Black Palestine Solidarity Statement 2015, that the challenges in the US andPalestine “call for unified action against anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and Zionism.”

Who should apply?  We invite all those with 2+ years of teaching experience, especially in English or ESL/ELL, and a social justice orientation are encouraged to apply.  We particularly encourage applications from educators who share the background of our students (Palestinian Arabs) and those who are Arabic speakers, People of Color, and/or from low income backgrounds.

What are the requirements and compensation?  We provide housing, airfare reimbursement up to $1500, and a $1200 stipend as compensation.  Staff are responsible for paying for tours ($300-400) and other costs of living during the program.  We expect our staff to do 5-10 hours per week of prep work work for May-June, and all staff need to be in Palestine from July 2 to August 7. During the program, staff teach five days per week from about 9am-4pm, one day per week is a staff political tour, 2-3 evenings per week include guest speakers, and there is one day off per week.
