Social Studies Exhibition Evening at Parkway Central
You are cordially invited to attend this year's Parkway Central High 2015 Exhibition Evening on Thursday, October 29. The event will run from 6:30-8:00 pm with all grade levels and multiple Social Studies content areas represented.
Highlights from this year include:
* a living history experience - Rho Kappa students will be recreating the Ottoman Grand Bazaar, including Turkish coffees, textiles, jewelry, traditional crafts, tea, spices, books, and much more! Students will be on-hand to haggle, demonstrate, and explain the intricacies of the Bazaar as an economic, political, cultural, religious, and culinary crossroad. Patrons will be given Ottoman money to spend in the Bazaar, purchasing food products or additional information about any of the available goods.
* World History themed research projects including the idea of particular cities as representations of eras, history trunks, famous individuals, empires, and more!
* Modern American themed research projects including bias in historical writing, perspectives on U.S. imperialism, and more!
* Historical dinner parties, in which you get to join in on the fun. Have a conversation with or listen to representatives from ancient empires, religions, Greek city-states, and trade route guides as they discuss the complexities of power, social structures, economies, belief systems, and much more. I'm fairly certain you'll be fed well - it is a dinner party, after all!
* Historical connections - weave your way through connections spanning thousands of years of human history. Students will showcase their original research and defend the connections that they have created.
